good faith estimate for cash pay & out of network patients
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) explaining how much your medical care will cost.
Under the law, 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers are required to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. Make sure your health care provider gives you a GFE in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a GFE before you schedule an item or service. You have the right to receive a GFE for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
The GFE shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for services provided by Metanoia Therapy. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created. It does not take into account any reimbursement that you may receive as a result of out of network benefits.
The GFE does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. You may contact Sheri Johnson, owner of Sessions Psychotherapy to let her know the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
self-pay/private pay vs. insurance billing
There are several reasons a person may choose not to bill their insurance for therapy, including: not needing a formal diagnosis to start therapy, no limits on how many sessions you can attend, availability of teletherapy (not all insurances cover this), and not having to share your mental health records with your insurance company. If you do not have insurance or choose not to bill your insurance for therapy, you will be considered private pay, and payment is due at time of service. If you choose not to use insurance, you will not be able to request insurance be billed for past services.
Forms will be provided for you to request reimbursement from your insurance company, but Sessions Psychotherapy makes no guarantee that services will be reimbursed.
